Possibly from Old Khmer cak (to distribute or scatter (especially in drops or particles)); thus possibly cognate with Modern Khmer ចាក់ (cak).

Compare Lao ແຈກ (chǣk), Shan ၸႅၵ်ႇ (tsèk).
