From Old Khmer សំតេច៑ (saṃtec), សំតច៑ (saṃtac), សំតាច៑ (saṃtāc), សម្តាច្ច៑ (samtacc, condition of being supreme in status and power). Cognate with Modern Khmer សម្ដេច (sɑmdac).
