Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit *𑀯𑀕𑁆𑀕𑀇 (*vaggaï, “goes”), from Sanskrit ৱ্ৰজতি (vrajati, “goes, wanders”). Cognate with Nepali बग्नु (bagnu, “to flow”), Gujarati વાગવું (vāgvũ, “to fall upon”), Marathi वागणें (vāgṇẽ, “to move, live”).
