Inherited from Prakrit 𑀆𑀡𑁂𑀤𑀺 (āṇedi, to bring, fetch), from Sanskrit आनयति (ānayati, to bring, carry), a compound of आ- (ā-, prepositional prefix) +‎ नयति (nayati, to guide, lead). Doublet of নেওয়া (neōẇa, to take).
