Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Classical Persian طوفان (tūfān), from Arabic طُوفَان (ṭūfān). Compare Bengali তুফান (tuphan), Marathi तुफान (tuphān), Punjabi ਤੁਫਾਨ (tuphān), Sylheti ꠔꠥꠚꠣꠘ (tufáno), English typhoon.
