Borrowed from Arabic قَمِيص (qamīṣ) (through Urdu قَمِیض (qamīẓ)), from Latin camisia, in turn from Proto-Germanic *hamiþiją. Compare with Nepali कमिज (kamij) and Marathi कमीज (kamīj).
