From उषस् (uṣás, dawn) + Proto-Indo-European *kelh₁- (to shout, to make a noise). Compare Old English hlōwan (to make a noise), Latin clāmō (to call out) (English claim), Ancient Greek καλέω (kaléō, I call, summon).
