Borrowed from Classical Syriac ܢܘܡܝܢ (nūmīn), from Ancient Greek νουμμίον (noummíon), diminutive of νοῦμμος (noûmmos) whence ܢܘܡܐ (nūmā), variant of νόμος (nómos), whence ܢܡܘܣܐ (nāmōsā) and نَامُوس (nāmūs).
