From Classical Syriac ܫܠܹܝܡܘܿܢ (š'lêmōn), from Biblical Hebrew שְׁלֹמֹה (šĕlōmōʰ) via Koine Greek Σολομών (Solomṓn). Imported into Arabic as a diminutive form of the preexisting Arabic name سَلْمَان (salmān).
