From Proto-Semitic *kanap-, cognate with Akkadian 𒉺 (kappum, “wing, branch”), Hebrew כנף (kanáf, “wing”), Arabic كَنَف (kanaf, “wing, side, bosom”), Ge'ez ክንፍ (kənf, “wing, fin”).
