Borrowed from Ancient Greek Ἑβραῖος (Hebraîos), from Aramaic עִבְרָי (ʿiḇrāy), from Hebrew עִבְרִי ('ivrí, ʿiḇrī), from Hebrew עבר ('éver, ʿéḇer). Compare Russian евре́й (jevréj), Ukrainian євре́й (jevréj).
