Etymology

From Proto-Mordvinic *pəŕgə-~*piŕgə-, borrowed from Proto-Baltic *perkūnas (whence Latvian pērkons and Lithuanian perkūnas). Finnish perkele and Estonian pergel borrowed from the same Baltic root.[1]
