From Proto-Slavic *vъ(n)-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁én. The /n/ persists in вънити (vŭniti). See also Proto-Slavic *vъ(n).

  1. in, into (describing an action of moving inside of something)
    вън- (vŭn-) + ‎-ити (-iti, to go) → ‎вънити (vŭniti, to go in, to enter)
