- Three possibilities from Babiniotis[1]:
- 1. Byzantine Greek [Term?], from Albanian lule or lulediell (“sunflower”)
- 2. From λειρίδιον (leirídion)/λειλίδιον (leilídion), from Koine Greek λειρίον (leiríon, “lily”)
- 3. From Ancient Greek *λίλιον (*lílion) (from Latin lilium (“lily”)) + -ούδι (-oúdi, diminutive)
