From Koine Greek κίτρινος (kítrinos) (or simply from κίτρο (kítro) with the adjectival suffix -ινος (-inos)), from κίτρον (kítron), from Latin citrus, citrum, itself probably via Etruscan ultimately from Ancient Greek κέδρος (kédros).
