Ancient Macedonian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Unknown. Apparently equivalent to Ancient Greek θάλασσαν (thálassan), according to Hesychius of Alexandria.

According to the DGE, it is more likely to be Pre-Greek than Ancient Macedonian. See Ancient Greek θάλασσα (thálassa) for more info.

  1. (hapax) sea (accusative singular)

Usage notes[edit]

  • Only attested as a hapax in Hesychius:

      δαλάγχαν· θάλασσαν
      dalánkhan; thálassan
      dalánkhan: sea
