Etymology[edit]
Perfect participle of αποκόβομαι (apokóvomai), passive voice of αποκόβω (apokóvo, “to preoccupy, employ”) or of αποκόπτομαι (apokóptomai), αποκόπτω (apokópto). Morphologically, απο- (apo-) + κομμένος (komménos, “cut”).
