From în + the older form căpăstra, from căpăstru, or possibly from Latin capistrāre, present active infinitive of capistrō,[1] or possibly from a Vulgar Latin form *incapistrāre[2] (compare Italian incapestrare, Sardinian incrabistare, French enchevêtrer, Catalan, Occitan, and Spanish encabestrar, Portuguese encabrestar, Spanish cabrestear, which may have been internal formations).
