Lithuanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From the same root as veĩsti (to breed, rear), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *weys- (to raise, produce). Cognate with Old Prussian wẽisin (fruit), Old Norse vísir (bud, sprout).[1]
