Borrowed from Latin toxicus (poisoned), from toxicum (poison), from Ancient Greek τοξικόν (toxikón) [φάρμακον (phármakon)] ("poison for use on arrows"), from τοξικός (toxikós, relating to arrows or archery), from τόξον (tóxon, bow).
