[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish سپسی[1] or سیپسی (sipsi),[2][3] itself inherited from Common Turkic *sïbïzgu (“a reed-pipe, flute”).[4][5] Cognates with Kazakh сыбызғы (sybyzğy), Tatar сыбызгы (sıbızgı).
