Middle Dutch[edit]
Etymology[edit]
A partial merger of two different, but related and probably synonymous words:
- rint from Old Dutch *rind, from Proto-Germanic *hrinþaz
- runt from Old Dutch *rund, from Proto-Germanic *hrunþaz
In the coastal dialects, unrounding of runt also resulted in rint.
