Albanian[edit]
Etymology 1[edit]
Borrowed from Latin rēgem,[1] accusative of rex. Ultimately a doublet of rig.
Noun[edit]
regj m (plural regjër)
Etymology 2[edit]
From Proto-Albanian *raugja, with an original meaning 'to smoke', thus related to Old Norse reykr and Old High German rouh (“smoke”).[2] Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *(e)reug-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rewg- (“to retch, vomit”). Cognate to Ancient Greek ἐρεύγομαι (ereúgomai, “to belch, gurk”).[3]
Verb[edit]
regj (aorist regja, participle regjur)
