[edit]hipp- + -uria + -ic + acid, named for the horse (as an archetype of the quadruped herbivores) by Justus von Liebig in 1829.

- (organic chemistry) A benzoyl derivative of glycine; it occurs in urine, especially that of herbivores. Its potential as a biomarker in humans is being studied.
