Etymology

From German erfahren, from Old High German arfaran, irfaran (roam through, explore), equivalent to er- +‎ fara. Cognate with Danish erfare, Norwegian Bokmål erfare, Norwegian Nynorsk erfare, erfara and Dutch ervaren.
