Etymology[edit]
From Ancient Greek χοαχύτης (khoakhútēs), from χοή (khoḗ, “libation to the dead”) + χέω (khéō, “to pour”), a calque of Egyptian wꜣḥ mw (literally “water-pourer”), from the participle of wꜣḥ (“to apply”) + mw (“water”).
