Etymology[edit]
From Malay alpoekat, probably influenced from an archaic word of Sundanese alpoekat (“advocate”), from Dutch advocaat.
Possibly from Arabic الْأَفُوكَاتَة (al-ʔafūkāta, “avocado”) or corruption of Dutch avocado.
