Etymology[edit]

The interpretation of the element wigi- is disputed and may represent a form related to Proto-Germanic *wīgą (battle), *wīhaz (sacred), Old Norse Vingþórr or something else. The second element is Donar, representing Proto-Germanic *Þunraz.
