'Diddly' is a term widely used in the New Zealand folk music scene for Celtic (especially Irish) instrumental folk music. I believe it's used elsewhere as well. It's used both as an adjective (diddly tunes, diddly music) and a noun (spent the evening playing diddly). The word is imitative of the sound of the music.
