It seems we have the definition in reverse order - the variant spelling part is surely secondary to the definition itself. I suggest:

1. (law) one who encourages in doing bad things. A variant spelling of abetter to be preferred in legal documents.

Oof, how weird; thanks for pointing this out. The first one's awkward, too. I've commented them both out (rather than just removing them, since I think if we just remove them, DerbethBot will readd them -- not sure where the work on a blacklist stands, or if I should request deletion of the second audio file on commons). - -sche (discuss) 08:34, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
