Anteaters and pangolins may be similar animals, but they are clearly different. If the words "anteater" and "pangolin" are used for aardvark in Africa, this should be specified, otherwise they can't be called synonyms. Andres 14:14, 27 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Aardvarks never hurt anyone[edit]

There are phrases relating to aardvarks - a quick google search showed 316,000 hits(!) for what I thought might be a little-known phrase: "Aardvarks never hurt anyone", so maybe it is worth mentioning in the aardvark entry? The phrases come from the similarity of the word "aardvark" to the phrase "hard work", I think, and the phrase I remember best was used several times in the BBC Radio comedy series "the Goon Show". I think you formatted your search incorrectly. Put it between quotation marks. My Google search shows only 6 hits. It is little-known. —Stephen (Talk) 00:12, 24 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Taste[edit]

  • From personal knowledge, one of the reasons that this animal is called, in Afrikaans, an Earth Pig is because it tastes like pork and and is a delicacy in Africa. Not sure whether information like that is relevant here though? BoonDock (talk) 16:08, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Rfv-sense: "(slang, particularly in the southeast US) A silly or credulous person who is prone to mistakes or blunders." This sounds plausible but I wasn't able to find much. The closest I got was "Scott is such an aardvark", but I don't even know if this is the right sense. 98.170.164.88 04:08, 15 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
