Declension

[edit]Etymology
[edit]From the Mat- stem of Máté + -us (diminutive suffix), from Latin Matthaeus, from Ancient Greek Ματθαῖος (Matthaîos), from Hebrew מַתִּתְיָהוּ (mattiṯyāhū), meaning “gift of the Lord”. Another possibility is from Slovak Matúš but the geographical occurrences do not support this assumption.[1]
