From Latin Lāodicēa, from Ancient Greek Λαοδίκεια (Laodíkeia), from Λαοδίκη (Laodíkē) + -εια (-eia, -ia: forming place names), chiefly after Laodice I and other Seleucid empresses. Equivalent to Laodice +‎ -a.
