Chinese
[edit]Glyph origin
[edit]Naming taboo (避諱/避讳); the last dot in 玄 (xuán) was omitted to avoid using the same character in the Kangxi Emperor's personal name, which was 玄燁/玄烨.
This was also applied to derived characters; characters like 弦 and 畜 were also missing the last dot in 玄 (xuán) during this time.
This also produced 𤍞 (yè) < 燁/烨 (yè).
Definitions
[edit]For pronunciation and definitions of 𤣥 – see 玄 (“deep; profound; mysterious; black; reddish black; etc.”). (This character is a variant form of 玄). |
