Etymology

Literally "protector of the realm, province", an agent noun based on ๐Žง๐๐‚๐Žถ (x-ลก-รง-m /โ xลกaรงa-โ /, โ€œrealm, provinceโ€) and ๐Žฑ๐Ž ๐Žฎ๐Žน (p-a-di-y /โ โˆšpฤโ /, โ€œto protectโ€).

Akin to Parthian ๐ญ”๐ญ„๐ญ“๐ญ (ลกhrb), ๐ญ‡๐ญ”๐ญ•๐ญ“๐ญ (แธฅลกtrp), Middle Persian ๐ญฑ๐ญฒ๐ญฅ๐ญฏ (ลกtrp).
