From 촌(村) (chon, “country”) + ㅅ (-s-) + 사람 (saram, “person”).

- Phonetic hangul: [촌(ː)싸람]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
