First attested in the Hunmong jahoe (訓蒙字會 / 훈몽자회), 1527, as Middle Korean 두디〮쥐〮 (Yale: twùtí-cúy), from Middle Korean 두디— (twuti-, to rummage, to dig) + (cwuy, mouse, rat).
