Etymology

From 見じ (miji, not wanting to see[1], formed from (mi), the 未然形 (mizenkei, irrealis or incomplete form) of verb 見る (miru) + (ji, a suffix forming the negative volitional form of verbs)) +‎ (-me, to a more exaggerated degree, a suffix producing na-adjectives).[1][2][3][4][5]

The 送り仮名 (okurigana) (me) is used to indicate the reading.
