Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Pali kaṭhina (“embroidery hoop”). Cognate with Old Khmer kathœṇa (“cloth given to monks for the making of robes; annual festival during which such cloth is given to monks”); Modern Khmer កថិន (kɑthən), កឋិន (kɑthən); Lao ກະຖິນ (ka thin); Burmese ကထိန် (ka.htin).

- (Buddhism) embroidery hoop used in making monastic robes.
- (Buddhism) Kathina: annual festival during which robes are presented to priests, usually falling between the 1st day of the waning moon of the 11th month and the middle of the 12th month under the lunar calendar.
- (Buddhism) Kathina: robe so presented.
- (slang, influenced by or clipping of จองกฐิน) revenge; harm.
