2. (literary) to delay, be late, tarry
   • a. 217 C.E., Mishnah, Berachot 5:1:

     חסידים הראשונים היו שוהים שעה אחת ומתפללים כדי שיכוונו את ליבם למקום

     The pious men of old used to wait one hour and [then] pray, in order to focus their minds on the Omnipresent.
