Etymology

Ultimately from Ancient Greek ὀλίγοι (olígoi, few) +‎ Ancient Greek φρήν (phrḗn, mind, soul) +‎ -ия (-ija, -ia, disease suffix).

Речник на българския език (Rečnik na bǎlgarskija ezik, Dictionary of the Bulgarian Language) states as the immediate etymon Latin oligofrenia.
