From *köläkä (shadow, shade), from Proto-Turkic *köl- (shadow, shade).

Compare with Old Uyghur [script needed] (kölägä, shadow); Kyrgyz көлөкө (kölökö), Tuvan хөлеге (xölege, shadow, shade).

Note also that a number of alternative archetypes manifest in Turkic languages: *kölän(t)kä, *köläntki, *kölkä, *köläk (shadow, shade), etc.
