Kalmyk

[edit]
Cyrillic Clear Script
кимзә (kimzä) ᡍᡄᡏᠴᡄᡃ(kemzē)

Etymology

[edit]

Uncertain. By surface analysis, кем (kem, measure) +‎ зә (, a nominal suffix); /e/ > /i/ shift is thus unexpected. Probably related to кемҗән (kemjän), which is a cognate of Mongolian хэмжээ (xemžee).
