From Proto-Turkic *Kāta-. Cognate with Bashkir ҡаҙау (qaźaw), Tatar кадак (qadaq), Uzbek qadoq; Uyghur قاداق (qadaq, nail, rivet), Tuvan кадаг (kadag), Western Yugur qataɣ (nail), etc.
