Etymology

From адвока́т (advokát, lawyer) +‎ -щина (-ština, -dom, -hood). Meaning is slightly exceptional, in that it doesn't mean “lawyership” (the state of being of a lawyer) but rather the specific sleight of hand practised by a lawyer.
