Compare Sanskrit अह्नाय (ahnāya, instantly, at once), Ancient Greek ἄφαρ (áphar, at once), ἄφνω (áphnō, suddenly), possibly from a Proto-Indo-European root *abʰ-.

Compare also Old Novgorodian абьно (abĭno, if, when).
